What Makes PRF Dental Implants Different? Stability, Comfort, and Healing Benefits

Successful dental implant treatment depends on more than placing an implant. The health of the surrounding bone and gums, careful treatment planning, and proper healing all play an important role in creating a strong foundation for your restoration.

At Tomenko Family Dentistry, we may incorporate Platelet-Rich Fibrin, or PRF, into dental implant treatment when additional support for healing is beneficial. This regenerative approach uses components from your own blood to help support the body's natural recovery process.

What Is PRF in Dental Implant Treatment?

PRF is created by taking a small sample of your blood and processing it in a centrifuge. This produces a fibrin matrix containing platelets, white blood cells, and naturally occurring growth factors.

We most commonly use PRF during procedures such as tooth extractions and bone grafting. These treatments are often important steps in preparing the jaw for a future dental implant. PRF may also be incorporated during implant placement in certain cases when bone grafting or additional healing support is needed.

Supporting a Stable Foundation

Dental implants rely on healthy, adequate jawbone for long-term stability. If a tooth has been missing or an extraction leaves insufficient bone, bone grafting may be recommended before or during implant treatment.

PRF can be combined with grafting material to support the regenerative process as the area heals. Creating healthy bone around the treatment site gives the implant a stronger environment for integration. We also use digital planning and customized surgical guides to help determine the appropriate location, angle, and depth for implant placement.

Potential Benefits of PRF

Because PRF comes from the patient's own blood, it provides a biocompatible way to support healing. Depending on the individual treatment plan, potential advantages can include:

•          Supporting soft tissue and bone healing

•          Helping the body regenerate tissue after an extraction

•          Supporting bone graft integration

•          Helping manage postoperative inflammation and swelling

•          Providing a natural source of growth factors at the treatment site

Greater Comfort During Recovery

Patient comfort is an important part of dental implant care. PRF can help support the body's normal healing response following extractions, grafting, and certain implant procedures. By encouraging tissue recovery and helping manage inflammation, it may contribute to a more comfortable postoperative experience.

Every patient heals differently, which is why we determine whether PRF is appropriate based on the condition of the bone and gums, the complexity of the procedure, and the overall treatment plan.

Personalized Dental Implant Planning

Dental implants are not a one-size-fits-all treatment. We evaluate your oral health, available bone, and restorative needs before recommending the appropriate approach. Advanced imaging, precision-guided implant placement, bone grafting, and PRF may all be incorporated when they can help us create a predictable foundation for your new tooth.
